We believe that learning should be fun and that students learn the most when they are happy. At Haven, our mission is to nurture the whole child—socially, emotionally, and academically. Our teachers are currently licensed with experience, and we follow state standards to drive educational content taught in each class so no holes or gaps will be created in learning. Having the ability to customize curriculum for each child allows us to pay attention to details where students may need more support, enrich their education where they excel, and tend to their learning styles and needs which sets us apart from others programs. Kindergarten has a maximum of 14 children in the class. Students must be 5 years old by July 31st to attend.

In Kindergarten, our students learn and solidify foundational skills as well as working on social skills. Students will learn to recognize, name, and write all 26 letters of the alphabet (upper & lowercase) & know the correct sound that each letter makes, read kindergarten sight words, read & write CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words, write short sentences, add & subtract within 10, recognize, write, order & count objects up to the number 20, count to 100 by 1's, 5's, & 10's, name & describe common shapes, develop fine motor skills by cutting, pasting & coloring, learn to take turns, problem solve & build relationships with peers.

We believe Kindergarten and these early elementary years set the tone for students’ schooling future, and we strive for Haven to be a place students are excited to come and learn every day.

First grade has a maximum of 14 children in the class.

First grade is a monumental year for reading! We spend a good portion of our literacy block learning the foundations of reading which focuses heavily on phonics and phonemic awareness instruction to build our fluency. Over the course of the year, we learn to write opinion, narrative, and informational pieces. In math, we learn various ways to solve addition and subtraction facts using a multitude of visual manipulatives, navigate word problems, learn to tell time and count money, and identify/discuss features of two- and three-dimensional shapes! Science and social studies consist mostly of plant life cycles, moon phases, timelines (past & present), and community economics. We have tons to cover and do so with as much hands-on engagement as possible!

We believe these early elementary years set the tone for students’ schooling future, and we strive for Haven to be a place students are excited to come and learn every day.

Second grade has a maximum of 14 children in the class.

Second grade is the year to solidify foundational phonics and math skills before making the big leap to 3rd grade! In second grade, we work on writing narrative, opinion, expository, and descriptive writing. Math skills we learned include telling time to the minute, skip counting to preface multiplication, addition and subtraction with regrouping, geometry, fractions, money, and more! In reading we focus on having firm mastery of the syllable types and phonics as we move into deeper comprehension and summary writing. In science and social studies we learn about engineering, life cycles, goods and services, maps and globes, and we dive into biographies. We make sure students are ready to head to 3rd grade with solid mastery in all areas.

We have a blast learning in 4th grade! Fourth graders will learn how to read, discuss, and write about in-depth  stories, poems, plays, informational books, and articles. Your child will also learn to show an understanding of literature and topics being studied in science and social studies by writing summaries, multi-paragraph essays, and research papers. Students will learn how to write an opinion piece and conduct oral debates. Students will also learn the literacy elements that make a great story and publish their own narrative by the end of the year. In math, students begin to explore more complex math concepts. Students learn to multiply multi-digit number, divide large numbers with remainders, find all the factors from 1-100, solve real world problems and take fractions to the next level!

In math, students develop understanding of and applying proportional relationships, develop understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations, and learn to solve problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions. Students dive deep into novel studies as they make inferences, evaluate evidence, and study words and language with vocabulary development and Greek/Latin roots.
